Pinot Nero Niedrist Riserva 2020

As early as the 1960s, Ignaz Niedrist (1911-1992) had the luxury of cultivating a large plot of Pinot Noir. This plot, while certainly yielding lower yields than others, nevertheless allowed for the production of a wine of great character. The choice of soils that proved particularly suited to growing Pinot Noir, and at the same time, the enthusiasm for this variety and the wine it produced, were the factors that led to the expansion of the Pinot Noir cultivation area over the years.

Pinot Noir Niedrist is grown in Cornaiano from the Rungg, Schöpf, and Mühlweg vineyards. These 30-year-old vineyards are characterized by glacial moraine soils, very stony (porphyry, granite, gneiss), with a medium sand and clay content; not being particularly deep, they heat up easily. Thanks to their favorable hilltop location, they are highly exposed to wind. Fermentation takes place in oak vats with cold pre-fermentation. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in barriques (approximately 25% new) on the fine lees for 14 months.
