Gorgona Frescobaldi is the fruit of a social project born from the collaboration between Marchesi Frescobaldi and the penal colony on the island of Gorgona, a beautiful island in the Tuscan Archipelago National Park. The predominantly mountainous island was once home to hermits and monks and subjected to barbarian incursions. Today, the island hosts an open-air penal colony, where inmates can move freely to work and learn new professions that will help them reintegrate into society after their sentences. Gorgona wine comes from a small Vermentino and Ansonica vineyard, planted in 1999 in the only area sheltered from strong sea winds. The vineyard is managed organically by the prison inmates.
