Franciacorta ist ein italienischer Schaumwein, der nach der klassischen Methode hergestellt wird, d.h. mit Nachgärung in der Flasche. Seine Disziplin sieht seine Produktion in verschiedenen Gemeinden der Provinz Brescia vor, in der wunderschönen Landschaft südlich des Iseosees, und erlaubt die Verwendung von Chardonnay-, Pinot Nero-, Pinot Bianco- und Erbamat-Trauben (letztere wurden erst vor kurzem eingeführt). Der Ursprung des Namens findet sich in mehr als einem historischen Zeugnis, von denen sich das anerkannteste jedoch auf die "curtes francae" bezieht, die benediktinischen Gerichte, auf deren Territorium Zollfreiheit herrschte. Franciacorta wird auch in den Versionen Rosé und Satèn hergestellt: Letztere ist eine echte Besonderheit der Appellation, mit einzigartigen Eigenschaften, die insbesondere mit dem geringeren atmosphärischen Druck in den Flaschen zusammenhängen.
