The Pinot Noir Barthenau ''Vigna Roccolo'' Hofstatter matures in three distinct phases: the first for approximately 18 months in small French oak barrels, the second after blending in a single large oak barrel for another approximately 6 months and after bottling the wine further matures in the bottle for another twelve months in the cellars of the Barthenau estate.

The Hofstatter Barthenau 'Vigna Roccolo' Pinot Noir is the expression of a prestigious Cru from the company's vineyards in the Mazon area. This vineyard, located right in the heart of Mazon, was near a 'Roccolo,' an ancient bird-catching site during the time of then-owner Ludwig Barth von Barthenau. This Pinot Noir reflects the enormous potential of this prestigious Cru, which boasts vines that are some 70 years old. In Alto Adige, only the denomination 'guarantees the provenance of a wine from a specific vineyard.'
