Russiz Superiore Merlot is produced in Capriva del Friuli, between 80 and 200 meters above sea level. It's 100% Merlot, and while not a native grape, Merlot has long been part of the Friulian winemaking tradition, having been imported to Friuli in 1880. The hilly terrain, formed during the Eocene, features alternating marl (limestone and clay) and sandstone (cemented sand). The grapes, separated from the stalks, are left to macerate in large steel vats for a period that varies depending on the vintage. During this phase, delicate punching down of the cap allows the noble components that define the wine's flavor and aroma to be extracted. The resulting wine is then aged for twelve months in small oak barrels, and after bottling, it rests for approximately six months.
