Yarden Merlot is produced with the eponymous grapes by Golan Heights Winery in the Galilee, in the town of Katzrin, on the hills of the same name. The first vineyard was planted in 1976, while the winery was built in 1983 by the initiative of four kibbutzim (collective villages) and four moshavim (cooperative communities). From the outset, Golan Heights Winery distinguished itself by producing high-quality wines, mostly grown on volcanic soils, deeply rooted in tradition. The label depicts the oil lamp, symbol of the ancient state of Israel. Yarden is the group's flagship winery: its name comes from the Hebrew translation of the Jordan River.
