Vigneti Massa's Timorasso Derthona is produced exclusively from white grapes that have always been cultivated in the Apennine and pre-Apennine hills of the Obertenga region. It risked extinction with phylloxera, but is now regaining its former position: from 4 hectares in 2000, the current forty-odd producers now cultivate approximately 150 hectares. Derthona is produced through cold maceration for approximately 40–45 hours, followed by fermentation for approximately 12 months in stainless steel tanks and periodic lees stirring for approximately 12 months. It is bottled approximately 14 months after harvest.
