Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 'Spelt' La Valentina is produced exclusively from the eponymous grapes, grown in the municipalities of Spoltore, San Valentino, and Scafa at an altitude of 50-400 meters above sea level, with a south-southwest exposure, in medium-textured clay soil. It is vinified as a red wine with maceration and fermentation for approximately three weeks in stainless steel vats. It ages for 16 months, partly in 25-hl oak barrels and partly in new and second-use barriques and tonneaux. It then ages in 25-hl oak barrels and for one year in bottle before being released for sale.
