Etna Bianco Calderara Sottana ''Le Vigne Niche'' Tenuta Terre Nere, unlike the winery's other Etna Bianco, which is a blend of five white grapes, is made exclusively from Carricante. This Carricante comes from both old and young vines, grown on countless plots, as finding excellent Carricante in a D.O.C. predominantly devoted to reds is challenging. Only 4% of the D.O.C.'s surface area is planted with Carricante. Vigne Niche is fermented and aged in 10-hectoliter barrels. It is bottled after about 12 months and ages for another six months before becoming available. A modest wine, its rare complexity blossoms beautifully over time. A long-lived wine, it will reward your patience with a beauty of unusual nobility.
