How to taste it
Every bottling has a different story, because each whisky matures differently. This time, the influence of a nine-month finish in highly active Virgin Oak casks has resulted in something different than usual: no buttery, creamy, and smooth notes masking the peat... quite the opposite, a robust and aromatic backbone that amplifies the Islay character! On the nose, the medicinal and iodine notes are stronger than ever: powerful, rustic, tarry, and earthy. There's a slightly tart note of balsamic vinegar and a touch of old wood. An almost vinous aroma, despite not having been matured in wine barrels. On the palate, it's powerful and stormy: an explosion of black pepper, peat, licorice root, and pine bonfire. There's no obvious sweetness: the tannins work together with the peat to push the smoky notes beyond their limits! A muscular, loud and unruly Islay whisky!
