Chartreuse Verte owes its roots to the discovery of the mysterious manuscript containing the recipe for the elixir of long life. An early version of the elixir was produced in the Vauvert monastery in Paris until 1737. From then until 1864, the Elixir Vegetal was made in the pharmacy of the Grande Chartreuse monastery, where, in 1764, Father Jérôme Maubec defined the first recipe, adding sugar and lowering the alcohol content, working to achieve the green color. Chartreuse Verte as we know it today was born from the formula of 130 herbs in 1840.
