The Champagne 'Clos Des Goisses' Extra Brut Vintage Philipponat is a wine from the most exceptional 'coteau' in Champagne. Clos Des Goisses is the first clos and the first terroir where the grapes were vinified and blended separately, a unique vineyard recognizable from all others for its very steep slope. This 5.5-hectare plot is the oldest clos (walled vineyard) in Champagne and the steepest. Its 45° inclination does not belie the origin of its name: in the old local dialect, 'gois' means a hill with very steep sides. Perfectly exposed to the south, it occupies the best coteau (hill) of Mareuil-sur-Ay, with exceptional soil where chalk surfaces. It is blended with 71% Pinot Noir and 29% Chardonnay. It is vinified partially in wood (53%), which favors greater complexity, avoiding premature oxidation. No malolactic fermentation is carried out so that the natural acidity compensates for the terroir's great power. The wine is aged for approximately ten years at a constant temperature (12°C) in the Maison's historic cellars in Mareuil-sur-Ay. The Extra-Brut dosage (4.25 g/l) allows for the vinosity and minerality of this exceptional vineyard to shine through.
