Amaro San Simone

Although Amaro San Simone is of pharmaceutical origin, it is not a specific medicine, with the associated limitations, but rather an excellent liqueur, enjoyed and beneficial by all. It is obtained from 34 selected plants and herbs, mostly from the surrounding area, recognized for their tonic properties. The product, available in a single 70cl format in the characteristic bottle, combines the effectiveness of its active ingredients with a delicious flavor, somewhere between sweet and bitter, and a delicate, unmistakable aroma. Its low alcohol content (26%) makes it acceptable even for the most delicate organisms, if consumed in moderate doses. The entire production process, from maceration of the herbs to bottling, takes place at the historic Turin plant. For over half a century, the main suppliers of the raw materials used have remained unchanged, just as the processing methods have remained identical, simply improved thanks to the use of more modern techniques: they are based on good traditional rules, better suited to preserving the active and aromatic ingredients that characterize the product.

Amaro San Simone, today produced by the company of the same name, takes its name from a monastic brotherhood that existed in Turin in the 16th century in the Dora Grossa district (now Via Garibaldi). Scholars of natural sciences and astronomy, they were recognized as highly knowledgeable about the medicinal properties of plants, their fruits, and their roots. In the early 1950s, the recipe for this ancient purifier was discovered in the archives of the Antica Officina Farmaceutica San Simone. To better satisfy customer tastes, the need was recognized to create a more palatable version of this elixir: around 1960, after more than two years of painstaking refinement, the current formula for Amaro San Simone was created at the same Pharmaceutical Factory. Initially, the new liqueur was intended only for pharmacies, but its immediate success prompted large-scale production to begin at the same original location, now a factory. After various names that followed one another over time, the current Amaro San Simone srl was born, which still continues the work of the founding pharmacist, respecting tradition and good practice.
